Ethel Mae

"Mover's & Shakers"

Grambling/Ruston/Shreveport, LA

Mary Caldwell Boden-Harris established Ethel Mae Movers & Shakers in Honor of her mother, Ethel Mae Ellis-Caldwell.

Mary "Bodean", as she was affectionately known, was an educator who immersed herself in teaching for 32 years at all levels: elementary, junior high, and Grambling State University. Her ultimate passion was helping people and teaching children. Because of this, she started "Ethel Mae Movers & Shakers" (EMMS). Initially, EMMS provided educational opportunities to students by providing monthly activities that included guest speakers, test-taking skills, self-care, and community outreach such as nursing home visits, volunteering opportunities, and activities that exposed students to new careers and ways of life.

Currently, EMMS provides post-secondary educational scholarships to help support students transition to self sufficient adults.
